Robert Moncuit 'Les Grands Blancs' Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut

Critical Acclaim: 92 pts Vinous; 91 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

"Tasting Notes: “Disgorged in May 2019 with three grams per liter dosage, Moncuit's NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru Les Grands Blancs is the latest rendition of the cuvée that formerly simply bore the name Blanc de Blancs. Derived from the 2015 and 2014 vintages, it's showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of ripe lemons, honeycomb and hints of the warm bread to come with a little more age on cork. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy but nicely defined, with an open core that reflects its constituent vintages, a delicate mousse and a sapid, penetrating finish.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

About the Wine: Robert Moncuit's NV Blanc de Blancs is sourced from parcels of Chardonnay located in the villages of Mesnil and Oger. It is around 80% of its base vintage and 20% reserve wine from the preceding vintage. The Les Grands Blanc is the domaine's “entry” level bottling, however calling it entry level is really selling the wine short seeing how it is always comprised of fruit from Grand Cru parcels that the domaine holds in both Mesnil & Oger.

Winemaker Pierre Amillet's vinification style is consistent across all of his wines. He uses a combination of neutral oak and stainless steel in order to preserve the minerality and focus that Chardonnay grown in chalk can have. Around 80% of this release’s base vintage was raised in used oak while only 20% of reserve wine was. The dosage is 5 grams per liter.

Varietal: Chardonnay.
