Critical Acclaim: 97 pts James Suckling, 94 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

About the Winery: Monteverro is named after the wild boar: verro is the historical regional word for “boar” - a reference to the fact that the shrubland around Capalbio has always been and is still home to many wild boars. Monteverro lies at the foot of the small medieval town of Capalbio on the southern edge of Tuscany in Maremma, a region well-known for its originality and tradition.  The vineyard estate is situated in close proximity to the coast and is characterized by its unusual slopes on stony, red clay soil.  Monteverro is known for its precision in viticulture and winemaking, emphasizing the unique terroir of its region. The winery is committed to producing wines that express the character and complexity of their specific vineyard origins.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes: "Dark ruby with touches of red velvet on the rim. Complex and elegant to the nose with dark fruits like black cherries and blueberries and hints of white truffles evolving on black olive and dark chocolate. Dense and silky entrance evolving on a beautifully fresh and layered mid palate with touches of cassis, plum, sundried tomatoes, eucalyptus and tobacco lingering on velvety tannins."

"A dense, rich red with loads of blackberries, black licorice, sage and blueberries. Some slate, too. It’s full-bodied with rich yet polished and integrated tannins. Flavorful finish. Dried meat and bacon with some smokiness at the end. Bordeaux blend. Drink after 2024."- James Suckling

"This is the headline wine from Monteverro. The 2017 Monteverro is Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot with a more important oak regime (in terms of time and types of barrel) compared to the more accessible Terra di Monteverro. This wine is fully concentrated and very rich. It's almost too much of a good thing with dark fruit layers, spice and savory tobacco. It's definitely bold and is a lot to take in. Drinking window: 2022-2035" - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
