About the Wine: This bottling of 100% hand-harvested Merlot comes from the single vineyard "Campo del Viotto". This wine is made only in select years with the finest fruit of the vintage. Fruit is hand-harvested in two separate harvests. The first whole clusters harvested (approximately 30%) are dried out for about 20 days, then de-stemmed and transferred to small open-top oak barrels for fermentation. The whole clusters from the second harvest are immediately de-stemmed and placed in small open-top oak barrels for fermentation. Frequent manual punchdowns of the cap allow for maximum color and tannin extraction. 80% of the wine is aged in large tonneaux and 20% in small oak barriques for 2 years. The juice is bottle-aged for an additional 6 months before release.
Tasting Notes: Ripe notes of marasca cherries, sweet tobacco, dark chocolate and ripe wild berries on the nose. The taste is intense on the palate, with soft sweet tannins and a spiced persistent finish.
Varietal: Merlot.
